Scout earns Eagle honor, creates garden bed at Taylor House
Kyle Van Horn, a member of the BSA Troop 202 and a resident of Oakboro, has earned the honor of Eagle Scout, the highest rank that the Boy Scouts offers. Only eight percent of BSA scouts ever attain this honor.
Kyle, 18, who just graduated from Gray Stone Day School, earned 49 merit badges in Troop 202. Twenty-one are required to earn the Eagle Scout award.
For his final project he elevated and enclosed a garden bed for the residents of The Taylor House, an assisted living facility in Albemarle.
Troop 202 honored Kyle with a ceremony on June 6 at Mission Church in Locust.
Troop 202 meets on Tuesday nights and charters out of Locust Presbyterian Church.
The Scouts have been active in the community through The Big Serve, picking up trash along Running Creek Road through the Adopt-A-Highway program and volunteering at West Stanly Christian Ministries.
