Stanly man sentenced to prison for trafficking fentanyl
B. Amaud Jaquane Allen, also known as Bookie, of Albemarle, was sentenced Monday to 132 months in prison for distribution of fentanyl, according to a release from the United States Attorney’s Office, Middle District of North Carolina.
According to court documents, Homeland Security Investigations, working with local law enforcement, executed a controlled purchase of approximately two ounces of fentanyl and a .45 caliber handgun from Allen in November 2019 in Albemarle.
Law enforcement officers then conducted an additional buy-bust operation in December 2019 wherein Allen was found in possession of three bags containing approximately 24 grams of fentanyl.
Allen, 29, was charged with one count of distribution of 40 grams or more of fentanyl, one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and one count of felon in possession of a firearm.
On March 4, 2021, Allen pled guilty to one count of distribution of 40 grams or more of fentanyl.
Allen was a convicted felon at the time of these offenses, having been convicted of common law robbery in 2010 and conspiracy to sell a schedule I controlled substance and two counts of possession with intent to sell or deliver a schedule I controlled substance in 2017 in the Superior Court of Stanly County.
Accordingly, at sentencing, the court determined Allen was a career offender.
In addition to the term of imprisonment, United States District Judge Catherine C. Eagles ordered Allen to serve four years of supervised release and to pay a $100 special assessment to the United States.
Sandra J. Hairston, acting United States attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina, made the announcement. The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations along with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Albemarle Police Department, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig M. Principe.
